After Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to tour Assam, where he will inaugurate a series of major cultural, social and security-related projects ahead of the upcoming elections. Shah will inaugurate the redeveloped Vaishnavite Satra of Srimanta Sankardev at Batadrava, linked to Assam’s greatest Vaishnavite saint. The redevelopment follows the recovery of 1,000 bighas of encroached land, which the state government says was illegally occupied by immigrants from Bangladesh. Shah will also inaugurate the new Guwahati Police Commissionerate, launch the city’s Integrated Command and Control Centre with 2,000 CCTV cameras, and open Northeast India’s largest 5,000-seat auditorium, underlining a mix of cultural outreach and security focus ahead of the polls.
