Hundreds of Iranians gathered after the casket carrying the remains of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei arrived at the Imam Khomeini Hussainiya in Tehran on Thursday night for a farewell ceremony. State media showed mourners praying and grieving beside the casket, which was draped in a green cloth. The official funeral is expected to begin on Saturday with ceremonies in Iran and Iraq. Khamenei, 86, was Iran's highest political and religious authority and was revered by millions of Shiite Muslims worldwide. His body is expected to lie in state from Saturday before being buried in Mashhad on July 9.
