Deadly wildfires raging through central and southern Chile, have so far killed at least 19 people, destroyed hundreds of homes, and forcing nearly 50,000 people to flee. The fires have burned more than 8,500 hectares across regions south of the capital Santiago, as Chile faces an intense heat wave. President Gabriel Boric has declared a state of catastrophe in the affected regions. The emergency designation allows greater coordination with the military to tackle nearly two dozen active wildfires.
