The mercury in Kargil town of Ladakh region in Jammu and Kashmir plunged to the season's lowest so far as it recorded a minimum of minus 15.2 degrees Celsius, even as there was some improvement in the weather at some other places in the state.

It was another chilly, foggy morning in the Kashmir Valley, as a feeble winter sun broke through clouds but failed to bring any respite from the cold in Srinagar today.

Mercury dropped slightly below zero in Srinagar and more in other parts of the Kashmir Valley on Monday even as the minimum overnight temperature in the Jammu and Kashmir capital was recorded at this winter season's lowest.

Normal life was affected in Srinagar as night temperatures dropped to half a degree below the freezing point today. Dense morning fog also forced locals to stay indoors.
