Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is in Odisha to meet Puri Shankaracharya, the seer of the famous Jagannath temple in Puri.

He arrived in Bhubaneshwar in a chartered flight. He has described his visit as 'non-political'.

"He is a devotee of the Lord and used to perform the 'chhera pahanra' (sweeping of the chariots) for the car festival in Ahmedabad," a local BJP leader said.

After meeting the seer, Mr Modi will head to Nagpur to seek the blessings of the party's ideological mentor, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS, at its headquarters.
