Lighting The Himalayas: Picnic at 12,000 Feet

The volunteers rest, have tea brought to them and made by women of the Zanskar village. They loved the tea, relaxed for a while and chatted up, and thanked the women for their hospitality.

The women from Zanskar Village were kind enough to serve homemade salty tea to the team. Its unique taste went well with the resting spot.

Thick woolen carpets and hot food were laid out for the team after five straight hours of hiking. The team was overjoyed once they reached this transit spot.
The women carried thermoses from their homes to bring tea for the team. Their adorable toddlers came along with them and played freely with everyone around.
The team unwinds, indulges in light-hearted banter after lunch.

The women of Zanskar wear satin jackets over their Goncha - red woolen robes. The jackets vary in colour and design, and are popular among younger women.
A couple of Ladakhi porters perform a duet while women look at them in amusement.
Zanskar women have luscious hair and are usually dressed in ornaments made from silver and the semi-precious stones found in Ladakh.
