Pop diva Madonna and English singer Lady Gaga stunned America on Saturday night by staging a catfight on live TV. -
Viewers of 'Saturday Night Live' this weekened got more than they had bargained for when the two sizzling singers appeared on the show together. In the middle of a fictitious MTV show called 'Deep House Dish,' Kenan Thompson announced, "Performing together for the very first time, Lady Gaga and Madonna!" -
The two women performed a synchronised dance-off, dressed in matching black lingerie and knee-high boots, as part of a comedy skit, which was called to a halt when Madonna started pulling GaGa's wig and throttling her, yelling, "What the hell is a disco stick?" referring to the younger star's hit. -
The singers continued to mock each other: "What's wrong Madonna, can't get into the groove?" to which Madonna replied, "Looks like your wig needs a fix!" and with that they were at each other's throat, pretending to strangle each other. -
The name-calling, hair-pulling brawl between the scantily-clad Pop divas continued on live TV as the hosts watched the unfolding drama in mock horror. -
The girl-on-girl wrestling match provided ample eye candy for SNL viewers. -
The two divas continued to push and shove each other until cast member Kenan Thompson instructed the woman to sit on the couch. -
Even after the feuding pair was separated and forced to sit on a couch, peace did not return to the sets. -
The two singers continued to reach across Thompson and slap each other. -
A comedy war of words ensued as Gaga, the show's musical guest, said: "Guess what Madonna, I'm totally hotter than you," to which the latter replied: "Hey guess what, I'm taller than you." -
Madonna then took a dig at Lady Gaga's name: "What sort of a name is Lady GaGa; it sounds like baby food". -
Lady Gaga was quick to retort: "The kind that's No. 1 on the Billboard charts," she said before lunging at the pop icon. -
The two continued their tomfoolery, paying little heed to the hapless Thompson caught in the cross-fire. -
The fake "who's the true Queen of Pop" smackdown got very physical before some semblance of order was restored by funnyman Thompson. -
When Thompson instructed the faux rivals to kiss and make up, the two leaned in for a smooch, but ended up planting one on the late night comedian who stuck his face between the two women. -
The scene brought to mind Madonna's famous lip lock with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera at the VMAs in 2003 had created such a sensation at that time. -
Lady Gaga and Madonna came tantalizingly close to kissing each other but then chose to make Thompson the object of their affections at the last minute. -

Some are seeing the Madonna-Gaga act as a symbolic anointement of the young singer as Madonna's heir apparent. Lady Gaga has acknowledged the Pop Queen's influence over her singing in the past.
