- A noise dispute arose between neighbours in Guangzhou, China involving ghost stories played loudly
- Lu and Li played ghost stories daily for over 10 hours near a shared wall, disturbing neighbours
- Noise affected other residents, including Cui, whose child struggled to study due to the sound
A dispute between neighbours in China took an unusual turn when a man used sound as a form of revenge, playing ghost stories for long hours each day. The incident, which disturbed several residents, has drawn attention online, reported the South China Morning Post.
The case was uncovered by the Ministry of Justice of the People's Republic of China. According to reports, Lu and his roommate, Li, living in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, had a dispute with their neighbor, Xie. However, the exact cause of the dispute remains unknown.
Following this, Lu and Li installed a loudspeaker near the shared wall and began playing ghost stories. These sounds were played daily from 8:45 am to noon and again from 3:30 pm. to 10 pm. During this time, the terrifying sounds reverberated continuously for more than 10 hours in the neighbour's house.
The noise wasn't limited to the neighbour concerned, but also began affecting other residents of the building. A man named Cui, who lived two floors above, became disturbed by the constant noise.
He faced daily difficulties, especially because his child was preparing for a competitive exam, and the noise was making it difficult for him to study in a quiet environment.
The matter became more complicated because the noise level was below the legal limit. Investigations revealed that the noise level inside Cui's home was 36 decibels, below the prescribed limit of 60 decibels during the day and 50 decibels at night.
This is why the administration initially couldn't take any strict action against Lu.
Court's Intervention
Convinced that the noise was being deliberately created to disrupt people's daily routine, Cui applied to the Guangzhou Haizhu District People's Court for a pre-litigation injunction. This is an order issued to prevent potential harm before a final verdict.
The court ruled in Cui's favor, ordering Lu to immediately stop recording.
Following the court's direction, Lu removed the audio equipment under the supervision of court officials. He also deleted all the recordings and assured not to make any noise in the future.
