- Company made the role redundant effective immediately during an HR meeting
- Manager had worked nights and weekends, prioritizing the company’s business
In a viral social media post that has sparked widespread debate about corporate loyalty, an employee shared how his former boss was laid off after eight years of service without any prior warning. According to the post by Banji Alo on X, his manager arrived at work to start his day as usual, only to be called into an HR meeting a few hours later and told it was his last day. The company eliminated the role effectively immediately, despite the manager's history of working nights and weekends to prioritize the business.
Following the meeting, the manager handed in his laptop and access card and left the premises before the end of the business day.
"My former boss was laid off after 8 years at a company. They arrived at work in the morning to start their day as normal. A few hours in, HR called them into a meeting and told them it was their last day. The company made the role redundant effective immediately. This was a fellow who worked nights and weekends, always putting the company first. After hearing the news, they handed in their laptop and access card. The news was shocking, so they decided to leave before the close of business," Alo recounted on X. He concluded the post by stating, "Companies look after themselves. Put yourself first."

The news left several users shocked, sparking concerns about job security and how employees are treated in today's workplaces. Many users felt the abrupt layoff highlighted the precarious nature of job security in the modern corporate world.
One user said, "So sad and heartbreaking. Some will fall into depression."
Another commented, "No company will ever be loyal to you the way you are loyal to it. Not because they are evil. Because they are a business. And businesses make decisions based on interest, not emotion. Govern yourself accordingly."
"The company is not your family. The company is not your friend. The company is an entity that will optimize for its own survival every single time, and that optimization will occasionally include removing people who gave everything to help it survive. Put yourself first not because companies are evil but because companies already do," wrote a third while a fourth added, "Companies are never loyal. You are nothing but a number. The company just use you until the decide the don't need you anymore.
