Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth have taken fans on a house tour. The couple opened the doors of their beautiful Chennai home, a 4000 square foot apartment on the 18th floor, to Architectural Digest India.
With huge windows, wide balconies and open spaces, the house offers stunning views of the city, including the sea and some well-known landmarks.
The home was first designed by architect Sruthi C Reddy, while designer Pavitra Rajaram helped the couple give the space a more personal touch. The design keeps the rooms connected, making the entire apartment feel like one large flowing space. Siddharth especially loves this feature of the house.
Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth have also added several beautiful pieces, including a glass chandelier, custom coffee table, vintage furniture, Japanese prints and artworks they collected. From its large windows to carefully chosen decor, every corner has a touch of Aditi and Siddharth's personal taste.
For Pavitra Rajaram, “What we connected on, really, was ‘what is home?' What does home mean? It should be happy and it should be done in a really happy way. You can have a house overnight but not a home. I think for it to be a home, it needs to gestate for a while.”
According to Pavitra Rajaram, “I tend to like blues and aquas, but here, Aditi's influence nudged the palette somewhere warmer: towards earthy, mulchy tones, and I leaned into it rather happily. Liking the same things created a real connection between us.”
One of the bedrooms uses blue, while another has green as its main colour. The dining room stands out with pink walls and details, while the TV room has a bright yellow theme. The lounge has a softer dusty rose shade, which gives it a calmer feel.
Aditi Rao Hydari had a clear idea for the main bedroom. She wanted a four poster bed and lots of patterns across the room. At first, she was unsure if she'll actually go this bold with the design, but Rajaram gave her the confidence to try it.
To keep the room from feeling too busy, the designer used ivory as the main colour. She took inspiration from the Shalimar Bagh in Srinagar to create a rich but peaceful look. Siddharth has no complaints about the floral design covering the room.
Several wallpapers and fabrics were specially made for the apartment. Siddharth has also added personal touches linked to his love for Chennai, including old maps and historical artwork.
