Cab operators from Assam have been blocking the national highway toward Shillong at Jorabat on the Assam-Meghalaya border.
Speaking during the protest at Umiam Junction, a Meghalaya taxi representative said drivers were prepared to restrict their operations to Jorabat if Assam-based taxi groups continued to block their movement.
Meanwhile, in a significant development, Assam government sources claimed that more than 100 vehicles from Assam and numerous tourists are reportedly stranded in Meghalaya's Sohra Area amid continuing tension in and around Shillong, with several families appealing for help to return home safely.
The situation along the Assam-Meghalaya border remains tense.
No Assam-registered cabs are currently allowed to enter Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya-registered commercial cabs have also reportedly been stopped near Umiam Lake on the outskirts of Shillong, with only local taxis allowed to operate in the area.
