A supposedly fun day out at the fair turned out to be a near-death experience for a young woman when she fell from a joyride in Maharashtra's Ahilyanagar.
A video of the incident has gone viral. The woman was seriously injured in the bizarre accident.
The video shows people at the Anand Mela of Ahilyanagar's Jamkhed get horrified as the young woman suddenly fell to the ground from a height.
According to eyewitnesses, the woman, who is yet to be identified, went to a spinning amusement park ride at the fair organised for the Nageshwar Yatra festival.
As the tsunami carnival ride started spinning, the iron safety lock of the seat that the woman was sitting on suddenly opened. With the lock giving way, the woman was thrown out of the seat, with the ride still spinning at a high speed.
She lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Chaos and panic rippled through the fair as soon as the accident occurred. The injured woman was rushed to a nearby government hospital.
Doctors said that she had been seriously injured in the freak fall. However, her condition is currently stable.
Tsunami carnival rides are common at local Indian fairs. But the serious threat that the accident posed has raised safety concerns regarding such speaking rides.
Jamkhed residents are now demanding that the administration take strict action against the ride operators and conduct a safety audit of the rides to avoid such life-threatening incidents in the future.
