- Isudan Gadhvi and supporters were arrested after allegedly a violent incident at Khambaliya Police Station
- The confrontation occurred during an attempt to intervene in a robbery-related case
- The group pressured officers, refused to submit grievances in writing, and caused chaos, the police said
Isudan Gadhvi, the state chief of the Aam Aadmi Party in Gujarat, was arrested along with dozens of supporters following an alleged violent confrontation at the Khambaliya Police Station in Devbhumi Dwarka district. The arrests came on a day the Gujarat corporation and panchayat elections were officially announced, intensifying the state's political atmosphere.
The incident unfolded on April 1, when Gadhvi, accompanied by party leaders Ramji Parmar, Kheraj Rudach, and a large crowd of supporters, arrived at the station. Reports said they meant to intervene in the case of one Deepak, a man from Bihar arrested recently in connection with a robbery.
Police reports said the situation escalated rapidly as the group attempted to pressure on-duty officers.
Vismay Manseta, a senior officer, said the group had engaged in aggressive behaviour, demanding suspension of staff and creating "unnecessary chaos" within the premises.
"The accused refused to submit their grievances in writing despite multiple requests from the PSI on duty," Manseta told reporters.
"Instead, they chose to obstruct official work, pushed police personnel, and used social media platforms like Facebook Live and WhatsApp to broadcast the commotion from inside the station, intentionally inciting public disorder."
The police have taken a stern stance against the disruption of law and order. A formal complaint was filed by station in-charge UK Jadav on behalf of the state.
Consequently, police cases were filed against Isudan Gadhvi and 30 others. The charges included unlawful assembly and rioting, use of violence, and obstructing a public servant in discharge of duty.
This evening, the Khambaliya police confirmed that all primary accused, including Gadhvi, have been taken into custody. Further legal procedures are in progress.
