AK Das conducts diabetes awareness campaigns, travelling across villages to educate people.
New Delhi:
The Jan Suraaj Party (JSP), led by Prashant Kishor, fielded Amit Kumar Das, a physician, in the Bihar elections from the Muzaffarpur City seat.
Bihar went to the polls in two phases on November 6 and 11. The results will be out on November 14.
Here are 5 things about AK Das:
- Born on August 18, 1976, in Muzaffarpur, Das pursued his MBBS and MD at Patna Medical College and Hospital. Inspired by the struggles of people around him as a child, he chose a career in medicine to serve those from underprivileged backgrounds.
- Das is the founder and director of Shri Hospital, established in 2008 and named after his daughter. He is known as a leading diabetes specialist in Muzaffarpur, with patients often waiting weeks for consultations.
- He often conducts diabetes awareness campaigns, travelling across villages to educate people about prevention and management of the disease.
- After joining the Jan Suraaj Party, Das brought his public service experience into politics. The party views his clean image, social engagement and commitment to health awareness as strengths that could help him secure the Muzaffarpur City seat. His wife, Jyoti, is a gynaecologist who works on women's health and empowerment.
- Beyond his hospital duties, Das has been raising awareness about public health since 2010. His efforts have been recognised with the "Young Achiever Award" by the Diabetes Organisation, Chennai, in 2015. He continues to provide free treatment and conduct medical outreach in rural areas.
