The onset of winter in the national capital was perceptible with a crisp chill in the air on Saturday.
The minimum temperature dipped to 11 degrees Celsius, the coldest night of the season so far. The night-time reading of minimum temperature was 3.3 notches below the season's normal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The minimum temperature dropped below the 15 degrees Celsius mark in Delhi for the first time this winter on Thursday.
The lowest temperature recorded in 2024 was 9.5 degrees Celsius, while it was 9.2 degrees Celsius in 2023 and 7.3 degrees Celsius in 2022, according to IMD data.
The city's maximum temperature on Saturday stood at 27.2 degrees Celsius, 2.3 notches below normal, the IMD said.
Officials attributed the chill to cold winds blowing into Delhi following fresh snowfall in the western Himalayas, coupled with clear night skies that enhanced radiational cooling.
The Met department has forecast shallow fog on Sunday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to hover around 28 and 11 degrees Celsius respectively.
