An Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft that was about to begin its take-off run returned to the parking bay in Delhi airport due to a suspected technical issue, a spokesperson of the airline said.
The Air India flight AI 2017 was scheduled to fly from Delhi to London.
Following the suspected technical issue, the pilots decided to discontinue the take-off run, begin performing the standard operating procedures and bring the aircraft back for precautionary checks, the spokesperson said.
Another aircraft is being deployed to fly the passengers to London at the earliest, the spokesperson said, adding Air India's ground staff is giving support and care to passengers to minimise inconvenience caused due to the unexpected delay.
"At Air India, the safety and wellbeing of our passengers remain the top priority," the spokesperson said.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is the same aircraft type that crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. Also operated by Air India and flying from Ahmedabad to London, the aircraft smashed into a medical college hostel just 32 seconds after take-off. Only one passenger among 242 survived. Twenty others were killed on the ground.
