Delhi-Dehradun Expressway To Be Inaugurated On April 14: Check Route, Features And Key Details

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the much-awaited Delhi - Dehradun Expressway on April 14, marking a significant milestone in North India's road infrastructure. The expressway has been designed to significantly cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun to approximately 2.5 hours, offering a faster and more efficient alternative for commuters. The 210 km corridor will link Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand, offering a streamlined, high-speed route that is set to ease congestion on several busy stretches. It is expected to ease congestion on the heavily used Delhi-Meerut corridor.

Features of the Expressway

• The 210-km expressway will cut travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from approximately 6.5 hours to just 2.5 hours - a significant improvement for both frequent travellers and tourists heading towards the popular mountain destination.
• The designated speed limit for cars on this six-lane access-controlled corridor is 100 km/h.
• The expressway starts near the Akshardham Temple in Delhi and passes through Baghpat, Baraut, Shamli, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh before reaching Dehradun.
• Engineered for high-speed, seamless travel, the expressway includes seven interchanges, two rail overbridges, 10 major bridges, and 14 wayside amenities aimed at improving commuter convenience and safety.
• A major highlight is a 12-km elevated section passing through the Rajaji National Park, designed to allow for the unrestricted movement of wildlife.
• Additional features such as two 200-metre elephant underpasses and six dedicated animal crossings have been incorporated to ensure safe movement of wildlife and minimise road accidents.
• The project will also feature a spur linking to Haridwar and integration with the Char Dham Highway, enhancing access to major pilgrimage destinations and hill stations across Uttarakhand and neighbouring regions.
• The project has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 12,000 crore.
