Guwahati:

A court sessions court in Guwahati on Friday rejected the bail applications of three key accused in Zubeen Garg's death case, including singer Amritprava Mahanta and two personal security officers of the late artist.

The court rejected the bail pleas of Amritprava Mahanta, the co-singer who accompanied Zubeen Garg on his Singapore trip and is named as one of the principal accused in the alleged murder, along with Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya, both of whom served as the late artist's personal security officers at the time of the incident.

The 52-year-old singer-composer had died while swimming in the sea on September 19 in Singapore, where he had gone to attend the North East India Festival (NEIF).

The Kamrup Metropolitan District and Sessions Court fixed February 13 as the next date of hearing, special public prosecutor (SPP) Ziaul Kamar said.

Among the seven arrested in the case, three of them - Garg's band member Amritprava Mahanta and his two personal security officers (PSOs) Paresh Baishya and Nandeswar Bora - had earlier filed for bail.

Garg's wife Garima, who was present during the hearing, said she was glad that the bail petitions were rejected. "We wish that none of them get bail until the case is closed and all the accused receive their due punishment," she said.

Meanwhile, Siddhartha Sarma, Zubeen Garg's former manager and the prime accused in the case, has moved a fresh discharge petition before the court, seeking to be released from the charges framed against him. The petition is expected to be taken up for hearing on a later date.

The court's decision comes amid ongoing trial proceedings in the Kamrup Metropolitan Sessions Court, where multiple accused have sought relief through bail and discharge pleas over recent hearings.

A chargesheet was later filed against seven accused, including Zubeen Garg's manager Siddhartha Sarma, security personnel, and others associated with him. The prosecution has cited nearly 394 witnesses, making the case one of the most complex criminal trials in recent years in Assam.
