Srinagar: Four militants and a soldier have been killed in a fierce gun battle in Hafruda forest area of Kupwara District.
The encounter started after Army and police personnel launched an operation yesterday evening. Four terrorists, believed to be foreigners, were in the operation. The Army pressed its special forces to flush out militants. One para-trooper was killed and three other soldiers were injured while fighting the heavily armed militants. A large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from the site of encounter.
This was the third major encounter between militants and security forces in North Kashmir in past week.
Yesterday, a militant and an soldier were killed during a nine-hour gun battle at Ladoora village in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district.
Earlier, three militants were killed and a Pakistani militant, Sajad Ahmad, was captured alive after an encounter in Rafiabad forest area.
