A 29-year-old woman allegedly killed her two sons and died by suicide at her house in Hyderabad on Tuesday. Police suspects a prolonged family disputes behind the extreme step.
Those who died were identified as S Banoth Sravanthi, 29, and her sons Karthik, 12, and Koushik, 10.
According to police, Sravanthi had married Boda Praveen about 13 years ago and couple had been facing frequent disputes after Praveen allegedly married another woman.
Police said Sravanthi had recently left the house and gone to her parents' home in Warangal along with her children following repeated quarrels. Family elders reportedly intervened and convinced her to return to Hyderabad with Praveen on Monday night.
"On Tuesday afternoon, Praveen returned from work around 1.30 pm and found the main door locked from inside. Despite repeated knocks, there was no response. He then broke open the door with the help of neighbours," Balanagar ACP P Naresh Reddy said.
Inside the house, Sravanthi and the two children were found dead. Police and a clues team rushed to the spot after receiving a Dial 100 call around 2.30 pm.
"Our team shifted the bodies for post-mortem examination. Prima facie, we suspect that the woman died by suicide. The exact cause of death of the two children will be known only after the post-mortem report," ACP Naresh Reddy said.
Police said the bodies of the children were found hanging along with their mother, though investigators are examining whether the children were killed before the woman took the extreme step.
Kukatpally DCP Riti Raj said a case of abetment to suicide would be registered against Praveen under Section 108 of the BNS.
"The investigation is focused on the domestic disputes and the circumstances that drove the woman to take this step," the officer said.
