Five men, including a Rapido worker, were arrested by Hyderabad police after a viral social media video showed them dangerously riding a bike near the Telangana Secretariat.
The incident took place in the early hours of March 29. According to police, at around 1 am, a black Pulsar motorcycle was seen at the busy Telangana Talli Flyover Junction, heading towards the state Secretariat. The rider was carrying four pillion passengers, none of whom was wearing a helmet.
Police said the group was riding in a rash manner and performing stunts on the busy stretch, posing a serious threat to themselves and other motorists.
The video, first shared through the Instagram page, soon went viral and prompted the Saifabad police to begin an investigation.
Using the video and surveillance footage, police traced the bike and identified the five accused. They were arrested on Wednesday.
The arrested persons identified as Vaddi Arjun, 22, a private employee, who was riding the bike, Arupu Rohit, 19, a Rapido worker, Chinthakunta Anja Kumar, 19, a student, Siddam Koushik, 18, a student and Vallapu Murali, 18, a car mechanic.
A case was registered, and the accused have been booked under Sections 281 and 125 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving and endangering life, besides Sections 184, 188 and 128(1) read with 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police officials said the Telangana Secretariat area is a high-security zone, and such acts will not be tolerated. SHO A. Seethaiah said strict action would continue against those making dangerous reels and stunt videos on city roads.
This is the third such case registered by the Saifabad police in the Secretariat area within the last ten days. Earlier, on March 24, two youths were arrested for performing bike stunts near the Secretariat while making Instagram reels. A few days later, another youth was caught near Lumbini Park for similar acts.
