An alleged narcotics network operating through social media has led to the arrest of actor and model Rohullah Mehdi in Mira Road's Kashimira area in Mumbai.
The Kashimira Police Crime Branch seized 28 grams of MD drugs worth around Rs 5.60 lakh and arrested two people. According to FIR No. 437/2026, Mehdi has been named as the main accused.
Police said they received a tip-off about MD drugs being sold through Snapchat, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms. Following the information, officers set up a trap using a decoy customer.
A man identified as Kasif was called near Thakur Mall in the Dahisar Check Naka area to deliver 28 grams of MD. Police caught him during the alleged drug deal. During questioning, he allegedly named Mehdi.
Acting on the information, police arrested Mehdi outside a studio in Malad, where he was shooting.
According to police, Mehdi is originally from Budgam district in Jammu and Kashmir and was living in Goregaon, Mumbai. He has worked with Shahid Kapoor in the film Deva and has also appeared in several web series.
Mehdi was produced before a court following his arrest. The court sent him to five days of police custody.
Police are now investigating the alleged drug network and are trying to find out who Mehdi may have supplied drugs to. They are also checking whether others from the film industry are linked to the case.
The operation was carried out by the Kashimira Police team under the guidance of DCP Zone-1 Rahul Chavan. Police said the investigation is ongoing and more names could emerge.
