Film veteran Dharmendra died at his home on Monday (November 24), confirmed news agency IANS. The Sholay actor died weeks ahead his 90th birthday, which falls on December 8.
Dharmendra's decades-old friend and frequent collaborator Amitabh Bachchan, along with his son Abhishek and grandson Agastya, arrived at the Pawan Hans Crematorium. Aamir Khan also paid his last respects. Director Rajkumar Santoshi, a family friend of the Deols, was present at the crematorium. Sanjay Dutt and Salim Khan were also among those who came to pay their last respects. Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, who had earlier visited the ailing actor at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital, also arrived at the crematorium. Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Gauri Khan also joined the list of celebrities, thronged to pay their last respects. Film veteran Saira Banu also paid her last respects.
Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh also arrived at the crematorium to pay their last respects.
Since morning, tensions were high as security was beefed up outside Dharmendra's house. An ambulance was spotted entering the premises. Dharmendra and Hema Malini's daughter Esha Deol was also seen arriving at their residence.
However, an official statement from the family is still awaited.
Dharmendra was discharged from Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on November 12. He had been undergoing treatment there since October 31 after he complained of breathlessness.
Dharmendra, one of India's most celebrated matinee idols, was known for films like Sholay, Dharam Veer, Chupke Chupke, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, and Dream Girl. He was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
He will next be seen in Ikkis, with Amitabh Bachchan's grandson Agastya Nanda playing the lead. The film is slated for release on December 25.
Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra collaborated on several hit films, including Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Ram Balram.
On Monday morning, the poster look from Ikkis was revealed. Dharmendra played Agastya's father in the film.
