Live : Krishnanagar Assembly Election 2021

The Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency consists of Tehatta, Palashipara, Kaliganj, Nakshipara, Chapra, Krishnanagar Uttar and Krishnanagar Dakshin assembly segments. The Krishnanagar constituency will go to polls on April 29 in the fourth phase of 2019 general election. The constituency which had 84.56% voter turnout last time, has 1624866 registered voters, this time, among which are 842215 male voters, 782610 female voters and 41 third gender voters. In the Krishnanagar constituency voting will be held in 1812 polling booths.

Once a CPI (M) bastion, Krishnanagar constituency has been witnessing TMC victory since 2009. In 1999 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won the seat and Satyabrata Mookherjee was elected to the Lok Sabha.

Renu Pada Das and Ajoy Mukhopadhyay have represented the Krishnanagar constituency in the Parliament for 4 terms each.

This time, ruling party TMC is fielding legislator Mahua Moitra after sitting MP Tapas Paul, who was arrested in the Rose Valley scam, declined to contest. Last time Mr Paul had won the seat by a margin of 71255 defeating CPI (M) candidate Shantanu Jha. Mr Jha is contesting for the 17th Lok Sabha election as well.

A total of 11 contestants are in fray for the Krishnanagar seat among which are 3 are independent candidates.

Among key contenders are Uddhab Roy (Bahujan Samaj Party), Intaj Ali Shah (Congress) and Kalyan Chaubey (BJP).

The seven-phase Lok Sabha polls will continue till May 19 and the results will be announced on May 23.
