About Sonipat

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ramesh Chander Kaushik was elected from the Sonipat constituency in Haryana on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. He won with 3,47,203 votes defeating Jagbir Singh Malik of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 77,414 votes.
 
In the 2009 general elections, Jagbir Singh Malik (Indian National Congress) won the Sonipat constituency by securing 3,38,795 votes (47.57 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency) . His closest opponent was Kishan Singh Sangwan of the Bharatiya Janata Party who received 1,77,511 votes (24.92 per cent).
 
There are nine assembly seats under the Sonipat constituency: Ganaur, Rai, Kharkhoda, Sonipat, Gohana, Baroda, Julana, Safidon and Jind.
