About Karnal

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Ashwini Kumar Chopra was elected from the Karnal constituency in Haryana on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. He won with 5,94,817 votes defeating Arvind Kumar Sharma of the Indian National Congress by a margin of 3,60,147 votes.
 
In the 2009 general elections, Arvind Kumar Sharma of the Indian National Congress won the Karnal constituency by securing 3,04,698 votes (37.57 per cent of the total votes polled in the constituency) . His closest opponent was Maratha Virender Verma of the Bahujan Samaj Party who received 2,28,352 votes (28.16 per cent).
 
There are nine assembly seats under the Karnal constituency: Nilokheri, Indri, Karnal, Gharaunda, Assandh, Panipat Rural, Panipat City, Samalkha and Israna.

For the 2019 general elections, Sanjay Bhatia from the Bharatiya Janata Party is contesting against Kuldip Sharma of the Indian National Congress, Pankaj of the Bahujan Samaj Party, and Dharmvir Padha of the Indian National Lok Dal.
