Gujarat is set to elect a new government today. The state voted in two phases - 89 assembly seats in phase 1 on December 1 and the remaining 93 seats in phase 2 on December 5. Voter turnout stood at 66.31 per cent, lower than the 71.28 per cent recorded in the 2017 Assembly elections.
The Gujarat Assembly has 182 seats, and a party must secure 92 seats to cross the majority mark. Gujarat, which is the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has seen a Bhartiya Janata Party government since 1995.

In the 2017 Assembly polls, BJP won 99 seats and Congress 77 seats, while two seats went to BTP, one to NCP, and three to independents.
As per the Election Commission of India, there are a total of 4,91,17, 708 voters in Gujarat of which 4,90,89,765 are general and 27,943 are service voters. The number of young voters, who attained the age of 18 years between January 1 and October 1, 2022, in the state stands at 3,24,420.
