Delhi Schools Winter Vacation: Delhi schools will remain closed until January 15, 2026, as the national capital continues to reel under a severe cold wave, dense fog, and low visibility during early morning hours, the Directorate of Education (DoE) announced on Thursday.
The winter vacation, scheduled from January 1 to January 15 as per the 2025-26 academic calendar, has been reiterated by the DoE in view of prevailing weather conditions to ensure student safety. Regular classes will resume after the break.
Delhi has witnessed a sharp drop in temperatures over the past few days, with dense fog disrupting normal movement and raising concerns over children commuting to schools during early hours.
However, despite the official winter break circular, several parents have taken to social media alleging that some private schools have reopened, putting young students at risk amid the cold wave.
"Don't know why schools in Delhi do not follow DoE's instructions/notices. There are lots of private schools who have opened today and are not following the winter break circular. Kindly clear the confusion in this matter as the health of young kids is at risk," wrote Surya Yadav on social media.
Commenting on the post, another user said, "Yes, the students of private schools are not built of metal. They need equal protection against bad weather conditions. Please do something."
Similar concerns were raised by another person who tagged the education department seeking clarity. "@Dir_Education Hi DoE, we have read in some newspapers that Delhi schools will remain closed until January 15. However, schools are still open and kids need to travel in such cold. Can you clear the notice," Aman Suman posted on X.
Delhi continues to experience harsh winter conditions, with dense fog affecting visibility during early mornings and late evenings.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the city recorded a maximum temperature of 16.7°C on January 7, which is 2.3°C below the seasonal average, while the minimum temperature stood at 8.6°C, slightly above normal by 1.7°C.
