- 15-year-old Mithun fell into an open drain in Delhi's Jasola on Saturday morning
- Rescue teams from Delhi Fire Service, NDRF, and Boat Club have been searching since then
- Continuous water flow in the drain has hindered rescue and search operations severely
Chasing a kite on a Saturday morning, 15-year-old Mithun fell into an open drain in Delhi's Jasola. Nearly 24 hours later, his family is still waiting for answers as rescue teams continue a search that has so far yielded no trace of the teenager.
Mithun was swept away after falling into the drain on Saturday. Since then, teams from the Delhi Fire Service, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Boat Club have been searching the drain and nearby areas, but have not been able to locate him.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, information about the incident was received at 11:54 am on Saturday. Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and a search operation was launched. The East Delhi district administration, Boat Club team and NDRF personnel are also part of the operation.
Rescue workers have been facing difficulties due to the continuous flow of water in the drain, which officials said has emerged as a major challenge in the search effort.
Family Waits Anxiously
For Mithun's family, every passing hour has deepened the uncertainty.
His father, Awadhesh Kumar, said the teenager fell into the drain around 11:00 am on Saturday and has not been found since.
"... My son fell in here yesterday at 11. He is fourteen or fifteen years old. His name is Mithun... We don't know how he fell, but he hasn't been found. This drain is completely open... The NDRF team and divers arrived here..." he told news agency ANI.
His aunt, Kusum, questioned the response to the incident.
"If the police had put efforts to rescue him then, then he could have been saved. The police came to the accident scene twice since 11:00 am yesterday but couldn't rescue him," she said.
Mithun's family hails from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh and had moved to Delhi in search of work.
The teenager is the youngest of four siblings. He has one sister and two brothers.
Search Continues
The NDRF resumed search operations on Sunday, combing the drain and adjoining stretches in an effort to locate the boy.
However, no trace of Mithun has been found so far, and his body has not been recovered.
Further details are awaited.
