Volvo Trucks India has introduced the Volvo FMX Edge, a new off-road dump truck developed specifically for the country's mining sector. The model was unveiled at the company's manufacturing facility in Hoskote, Bengaluru, in the presence of key mining customers, along with senior representatives from Volvo Trucks, VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., and Volvo Construction Equipment.
The launch comes at a time when India's mining industry is witnessing a growing focus on higher productivity, improved safety standards, and better lifecycle efficiency from heavy-duty vehicles. The FMX Edge has been designed to address these changing requirements while building on Volvo's established presence in the segment.

The Volvo FMX Edge is an extension of the FMX platform, which has been operational in India for over five years. Volvo Trucks states that more than 3,000 units of the FMX500 8X4 are currently deployed across mining sites in the country. As per the manufacturer, the new model builds on this foundation, incorporating insights gathered from customer feedback and real-world mining conditions.

A key highlight of the FMX Edge is its 31.2 cubic metre SAE heap body capacity, paired with a 2.8-metre-wide body. This configuration has been developed to improve compatibility with larger excavators, which are increasingly being used in mining operations. By enabling more efficient material handling, the truck is expected to contribute to improved cycle times, particularly in overburden applications.

Volvo has also focused on enhancing operational efficiency and uptime with the FMX Edge.
