Vespa has launched a new heritage-themed edition in India called the Officina 8 special series. Available at select dealerships, this model is priced from Rs 1.34 lakh (ex-showroom) and comes in both 125 cc and 150 cc versions. The edition pays homage to Piaggio's historic experimental workshop at the Pontedera plant in Italy, the very place where the earliest Vespa prototypes were crafted and refined before the scooter went on to become a global icon.
The story of Officina 8 dates back to the 1940s, when Piaggio created a small, specialized workshop inside its Pontedera facility in Italy. Unlike the main assembly line, this unit operated independently, bringing together engineers and craftsmen who focused exclusively on prototypes, repeated trials, and mechanical refinements. Their dedication eventually led to the birth of the first Vespa in 1946, a product that would go on to redefine urban mobility.
This workshop became a hub of innovation, where ideas were tested relentlessly until perfected. Breakthroughs such as the step-through steel frame, compact engine layout, and user-friendly controls were all refined here. Over time, Officina 8 grew into a symbol of Piaggio's commitment to precision and creativity, representing the brand's ability to merge engineering excellence with practical design.

To celebrate this heritage, Vespa has introduced the special edition finished in a matte metallic shade known as Blue Officina 8. The colour was developed specifically for this model and reflects the industrial character of the original workshop. Brass and aluminium highlights, along with exposed rivet detailing, lend the scooter a vintage aura that pays homage to its roots.
The styling blends retro cues with modern craftsmanship. To reinforce the theme, Vespa includes a colour-matched helmet as standard equipment, ensuring the rider's gear complements the scooter's distinctive look. Buyers can also opt for a matching top box painted in the same industrial tone, adding practicality without compromising design.
Beyond the scooter itself, Vespa has curated a lifestyle collection under the Officina 8 name. This range includes jackets, hoodies, T-shirts, backpacks, and keychains, all carrying dedicated branding. The idea is to extend the Officina 8 identity beyond the vehicle, allowing enthusiasts to embrace the spirit of the workshop in everyday life.
