The City Transformer CT-2 is being pitched as a future-ready urban mobility solution that could even replace e-rickshaws in crowded cities like those in India. Speaking to NDTV, City Transformer CEO Dr. Asaf Formoza shared how the compact electric vehicle has been designed to tackle traffic congestion while offering the comfort and safety of a car.

According to Dr. Asaf, the City Transformer CT-2 is the world's first vehicle that can shrink its width down to just one metre. He explained that even compact urban vehicles often get stuck in traffic because of their size, while the CT-2 can reduce its dimensions and move through tight city spaces more efficiently. The City Transformer CT-2 could work as a premium personal vehicle, a shared mobility solution, and even as a replacement for e-rickshaws in markets like India, which is one of the future markets for the brand.

Dr. Asaf revealed that the company is already in talks with major Indian entities and is even exploring the possibility of manufacturing the City Transformer CT-2 in India. He highlighted that the vehicle could suit both Indian and global markets due to its compact footprint and flexible design.

The CEO also spoke about the City Transformer CT-2 already being approved under Europe's L7E vehicle regulations. He mentioned that the electric vehicle already carries a German license plate and is legally allowed to be driven across Europe.

One of the biggest highlights of the City Transformer CT-2 is its transformable body. In expanded mode, the electric vehicle can reach speeds of up to 90 km/h. When shrunk to one metre wide, the City Transformer CT-2 can still travel at speeds of up to 40 km/h while taking up almost the same road and parking space as a motorcycle. Dr. Asaf described it as a vehicle that can "drive like a car and park like a motorcycle."

The City Transformer CT-2 is a fully electric vehicle powered by two in-wheel electric motors mounted on the rear wheels. It uses a 15 kWh battery pack and offers a claimed range of 180 km on a single charge. Despite carrying the battery pack, the City Transformer CT-2 weighs under 600 kg.

Talking about the development journey, Dr. Asaf said the company started work on the concept back in 2014. He added that City Transformer already has around 5,000 pre-orders, mainly from Germany, other parts of Europe, and Israel. The company is now raising funds to begin serial production of the City Transformer CT-2.
