KTM has finally pulled the wraps off its 990 RC R Track, which essentially is a stripped-down version of the motorcycle designed purely for circuit domination and is not legal for road use. Building on the road-going 990 RC R, this model sheds weight, amps up power, and ditches street-legal extras to let riders push harder on the asphalt.
Power, Performance Boost
At heart, the track-focused machine continues with KTM's familiar 947cc LC8c parallel-twin, but tuners have increased the output to 135 hp at 10,000 rpm and 105 Nm at 7,000rpm, a noticeable step up from the standard model's 130 hp and 103 Nm. That extra grunt pairs with a track-optimized gearbox, featuring a longer first gear for launches and a shorter sixth for better top-end pull. An Akrapovic Evolution Line stainless steel exhaust, tipping the scales at just 3kg, is expected to deliver that crisp response while keeping things light.

Lighter and Leaner Build
KTM claims the bike has a weight of around 181 kg, making it lighter than the street bike thanks to the removal of road gear like lights, mirrors, side-stand, and ABS modulator. The chassis stays true to form with a chromium-molybdenum steel trellis frame and aluminum subframe, but now sports MotoGP-inspired aero wings for better downforce during hard braking and acceleration. Injected plastic fairings make sponsor stickers a breeze, and a taller windscreen to cut fatigue during full tucks.

Track-Focused Tech and Suspension
Electronics get pared back to essentials on a compact 4.2-inch TFT display, showing lap times and key data without distraction. Three customizable Track Modes tweak throttle, traction control, anti-wheelie, launch control, engine braking, pit limiter, and Quickshifter+. WP APEX suspension is fully adjustable front and rear, dialed in from tests at top European circuits, while Brembo Hypure brakes with 320 mm front discs and direct lines offer razor-sharp stopping power. Michelin Power Slick tires (120/70-17 front, 190/55-17 rear) complete the grip package.
Ready for Racing Cups
This isn't just a track toy; KTM timed the reveal with its new 990 RC R Cup, a six-round European series for amateurs with priority bike delivery. Dealers can supply parts easily, making it practical for serious track days. For Indian enthusiasts eyeing imports, it's a sign KTM's supersport revival is hitting full throttle, though road legality here remains a hurdle.
