The Citroen Basalt, built in Brazil, has been awarded a zero-star safety rating by Latin NCAP following its crash test evaluation. In contrast, the India-spec Basalt secured a commendable 4-star rating under Bharat NCAP's safety assessment. While both versions share the same underlying platform, the India-made Basalt benefits from specific safety enhancements that significantly improve its crashworthiness.
The Latin NCAP test result for the Brazil-made Citroen Basalt indicates that the car scored 15.79 points, which translates to just 39 percent safety in terms of adult occupant protection. In terms of the Frontal Impact tests, the Citroen Basalt showed that the protection offered to the driver's and front passenger's head and neck was good. Protection offered to the driver's chest was marginal, while protection offered to the front passenger's chest was weak due to the insufficient performance of the pretensioner. The driver and front passenger's knees received marginal protection, as they can impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard.
In the Side Impact Test, the head, abdomen, chest, and pelvis received good protection. Meanwhile, the Side Pole Impact was not performed because the model does not offer lateral head protection.
In the Child Occupant protection, the Brazil-made Citroen Basalt scored 28.59 points, translating to a 58 percent safety score. For the test, a three-year-old dummy was installed rearward-facing using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg.
It was able to prevent head exposure and offered good protection. The one-and-a-half-year-old dummy was installed rearward-facing using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. It was able to prevent head exposure and offered almost total protection, showing a chest deceleration slightly greater than admissible.

In the Side Impact test, the one-and-a-half-year-old CRS offered full protection, while the three-year-old dummy's head contacted the vehicle interior during the crash. Some of the CRSs evaluated for installation failed. The vehicle offers 3-point seatbelts in all seating positions. The airbag warning signal when a CRS is installed in the rearward-facing front seat does not meet Latin NCAP requirements, and it is not possible to deactivate the airbag in the passenger seat position.
In the pedestrian and vulnerable road users safety test, Citroen Basalt scored 25.62 points, which is 53 percent.
