BMW is all set to unveil the facelifted BMW i7 on April 22 at Auto China 2026 in Beijing, and this update is shaping up to be far more than a cosmetic refresh. The luxury electric sedan will become one of the key flagship models to adopt BMW's evolving Neue Klasse technology direction, bringing in next-generation EV architecture, smarter software integration, and a newly developed battery system co-engineered with Rimac Technology.
New Rimac Battery Brings More Range And Faster Charging
The new BMW i7 facelift will become the first BMW electric model to use a jointly developed BMW-Rimac high-voltage battery pack. It combines BMW's latest Gen6 4695 cylindrical lithium-ion cells with Rimac's advanced module-based battery architecture, delivering around 20 percent higher volumetric energy density than the previous setup. This should translate into noticeably improved driving range and significantly faster charging times for the flagship sedan.

Production of this battery system will take place at Rimac's dedicated campus near Zagreb, Croatia, before being supplied to BMW's Dingolfing facility for final assembly. The scalable pack design is also engineered to support future battery chemistries, making it relevant for upcoming BMW EVs as well.
Design Tweaks And Feature Additions Expected
On the design front, the BMW i7 facelift is likely to receive a mildly reworked front fascia with a cleaner grille treatment, larger DRLs, and revised bumper detailing. BMW is expected to retain the sedan's bold luxury stance while aligning it more closely with its newer Neue Klasse-inspired EV design language.
Inside, the plush cabin is expected to remain largely unchanged, continuing with its expansive digital display layout, premium audio setup, and executive rear-seat comforts. However, BMW may use this mid-life refresh to introduce new software enhancements and additional convenience features.
