Safety Of Escort Model
The car involved in the accident is a 2017 Toyota Innova Crysta. The seven-seater MPV is one of the most popular choices when it comes to using an escort vehicle. The MY17 version of the MPV had a four-star safety rating awarded in tests conducted by ASEAN NCAP.
The requirement for a 5-star safety rating in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) includes the necessity of Electronic Stability Control (ESC). However, the ASEAN-spec 2016 Toyota Innova, which came from Indonesia, did not come with ESC as a standard feature. Consequently, the highest trim levels equipped with ESC achieved a score of 14.10 points out of a possible 16.00, earning a 5-star safety rating in AOP.
In another round of testing, the MY2020 of the MPV was awarded a five-star rating applicable to the iteration of vehicles sold in Indonesia and Vietnam. Coming from the same family, the latest Innova Hycross also boasts a five-star safety rating in tests conducted by BNCAP. This version of the vehicle comes with the option of a hybrid powertrain.
