Toyota has officially revealed the all-new 2027 Highlander, marking a historic moment for the brand's popular SUV. For the first time in its history, the Highlander goes fully electric, becoming Toyota's first three-row battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the U.S. and the first BEV Highlander to be assembled in America. Production will take place at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, while battery modules will be built at the company's new North Carolina facility.

The SUV sits on a modified TNGA-K platform, adapted to accommodate larger batteries and improved packaging. It is wider, longer in wheelbase, and slightly lower than before, enhancing both cabin space and road presence. Width now measures 78.3 inches, wheelbase stretches to 120.1 inches, and height drops to 67.3 inches, giving the Highlander a sportier stance.

Design follows Toyota's latest "hammerhead" theme, with slim DRLs, flush door handles, pronounced fender flares, and aerodynamic detailing. Inside, the cabin emphasizes space and technology. A 14-inch central touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch digital driver display, while customizable 64-color ambient lighting and an optional panoramic glass roof add premium appeal. The three-row layout accommodates up to seven passengers, and folding the third row expands cargo capacity beyond 45 cubic feet.

Toyota will offer the electric Highlander in XLE and Limited trims. The XLE comes in front-wheel drive (FWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) versions. The FWD variant uses a 77 kWh battery with a claimed range of about 462 km, while AWD models achieve roughly 435 km with the same pack or up to 515 km with a larger 95.8 kWh battery. The Limited trim gets standard AWD and the bigger battery. Power outputs vary: 224 bhp and 268 Nm for FWD, while AWD delivers 343 bhp and 438 Nm, ensuring strong performance and smooth delivery.
