Tata Sierra is a strong nameplate whose memories go back to the 90s. The SUV has just been launched in India at a starting price of Rs 11.49 lakh, ex-showroom. Tata Motors is eyeing a big pie of the cake with the Sierra. Positioned in the hotly-contested mid-size SUV space, the new-gen Sierra locks horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Mahindra XUV700, and the upcoming Renault Duster.

That being said, the new Tata Sierra has big shoes to fill, considering the long-legacy it follows. It does come equipped with a plethora of features like the Level-2 ADAS, triple-screen setup on the dashboard and more. Yet, for enthusiasts who adored the original Sierra, there are a few iconic elements missing Thus, here are three things we wish Tata had carried forward from the OG Sierra.

1. Large Alpine Windows

The original Sierra's massive alpine windows were more than just a design element; they were a statement. They gave the SUV a unique silhouette and offered panoramic views. The new Sierra, while stylish and contemporary, opts for a conventional glasshouse design. It's practical, mimics the large window of the original, but lacks that distinctive charm that made the OG instantly recognizable.

2. 4x4 Drivetrain

Back in the day, the Sierra was one of the few lifestyle SUVs in India to offer a 4x4 drivetrain. It wasn't just about off-roading; it was about capability and character. The 2026 Sierra, however, is front-wheel-drive only crossover, with no AWD or 4x4 option even in higher trims. For a nameplate that once symbolized adventure, this omission feels like a missed opportunity. While the carmaker is tight-lipped about the plans of introducing 4x4 drivetrain, we expect it could happen sometime in 2027 in the all-electric format.

3. Tailgate-Mounted Spare Wheel

Nothing screams ruggedness like a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. The OG Sierra had it, the new-gen model misses out. It gave the old Sierra a muscular stance and an unmistakable identity. The new Sierra's clamshell bootlid looks modern, but it sacrifices that old-school SUV vibe that enthusiasts loved. In fact, it had dual wipers for the rear windscreen.
