Everyone is talking about the how social media is going to impact the forthcoming elections and that chorus has meant political parties are rushing into a no-holds barred contest to dominate the digital space and influence opinion online with funds being pumped to communicate and campaign extensively. So activists are now saying that political parties should be accountable for these online expenses just as they are accountable for the offline expenses. This has led to the Election Commission to seriously put on its thinking cap and see whether or not political parties on social media should be brought into the model code of conduct, but this is hardly as straightforward as it looks.
