Malaysian Politics: Sex, Sodomy and Trials
Kuala Lumpur: A Malaysian prosecutor who is allegedly having an affair with the young man who accused opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim of sodomy has been axed from the trial.

Attorney-General Abdul Gani Patail said late Tuesday that Farah Azlina Latif had been removed not because she was guilty but to protect the integrity of the prosecution team.

The move came after an online news portal romantically linked Farah to key witness Saiful Bukhari Azlan.

Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair on Wednesday demanded a thorough probe, warning the scandal could hurt the prosecution's credibility.

The trial is set to resume Aug 2. Anwar insists the charge has been fabricated to end his political career. Sodomy is punishable by up to 20 years.
