A Pakistan Army officer on Monday was seen misuing his power at the Sarhad University in Islamabad, beating up student protesters and firing a service gun at the educational institute.
Protesters across provinces in Pakistan, from the streets of Baluchistan to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), have for weeks claimed that the "terror" unleashed on them has been the work of the Pakistan Army.
"Yeh jo dehshatgardi hai, iske peeche Pakistan fauj ki vardi hai (The terror unleashed on people has the Pakistan Army's uniform behind it)," they would say.
The Rawat Campus of the Sarhad University saw this live today.
As per an eyewitness, a group of students was peacefully protesting against their head of department over fees and class schedules.
As per sources, Head of Student Affairs, Dr Aina, arrived to pacify protesting students. When a few students refused to back down, she called the her husband, an Army Officer.
''Wearing uniform her husband - a Colonel or Brigadier rank officer - arrived on campus and without any provocation started hitting students with stick. Later he pulled out his service pistol, fired in the air, and aimed it at the unarmed students," a student said, demanding action against the officer.
Meanwhile, sources said that after the video of the Army officer brandishing his pistol and firing shots in the air went viral, the Pakistan Army initiated disciplinary action against him and ordered an internal inquiry.
