Year Ender 2025 | Born Online, Marching Offline, The Gen Z Protests That Rocked The World In 2025

They grew up online but in 2025, they took their anger to the streets. From Nepal to Madagascar to Mexico, Gen Z protests went global, challenging power and shaking governments. In Nepal, protests erupted in September after the government banned dozens of major social media platforms. That clampdown sparked massive youth unrest and eventually forced the prime minister out. Across Madagascar, anti-government demonstrations over water and power cuts grew into broad youth-led protests in late September and October. The unrest intensified when parts of the army refused orders to fire on demonstrators, and President Andry Rajoelina fled the country in mid-October amid the crisis.
