The Mekedatu project has triggered a fresh political confrontation in Tamil Nadu, with Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin urging Chief Minister Vijay to convene an all-party meeting on the issue. Citing Karnataka's renewed push for the project, Stalin argued that Tamil Nadu must present a united political front to protect the state's water rights and farmers' interests. The Vijay government, however, maintains that it has already passed an Assembly resolution and raised the matter with the Prime Minister.
