68-year-old Ruprati, like many daily wage labourers in this small village near Lucknow has been without work for the past seven months. She is compelled to borrow money for survival, she said,  because her family has not received work under the scheme since early last year. For many households in rural India with no education and minimum skill wages received under the scheme are their only source of income and social security. Many however have still not received their long-due wages under the scheme.
