Vijay Under CBI Lens as BJP, Congress Eye TVK Alliance Ahead Of Assembly Elections

Actor-turned-politician Vijay, founder and chief of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning in connection with the Karur stampede case, with his appearance scheduled for Monday, January 12. The development has quickly taken on political significance, as Tamil Nadu heads toward Assembly elections in the coming months. Vijay, who enjoys a strong cult following among young voters, is widely seen as a potential vote-splitter in the anti-DMK space.

This comes at a time when the BJP has revived its alliance with the AIADMK, forming an NDA that is still viewed as internally divided and electorally fragile in the state. Within this context, the BJP reportedly sees Vijay and TVK as a strategic force—either as a threat that could indirectly aid the DMK by splitting votes, or as a potential ally who could strengthen the NDA’s electoral prospects.

Adding another layer to the political churn are signals of possible alignment between TVK and the Congress, with TVK leaders drawing ideological parallels between the two parties and highlighting the rapport between Vijay and Rahul Gandhi. These developments have fueled speculation about TVK's future alliances.

Against this backdrop, the CBI summons is being viewed not merely as a legal matter, but as one that could influence Vijay’s political positioning and alliance choices, potentially shaping the contours of the upcoming Tamil Nadu election battle between the DMK-led alliance and the NDA.
