US Supreme Court Upholds Birthright Citizenship, Rejecting Trump’s Proposed Limits

The Supreme Court has rejected President Donald Trump's executive order on birthright citizenship that would have denied citizenship to children born to mothers who are in the country illegally or temporarily. Trump signed an executive order, on his first day in office last year, that would have upended more than a century's understanding of what it means to be an American citizen. Birthright citizenship is enshrined in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution which was adopted after the Civil War. President Trump has posted repeatedly on social media about the importance of limiting birthright citizenship and in a sign of his interest in the case, attended arguments in April, apparently the first time a sitting American president has attended Supreme Court arguments.
