US Defence Secretary On 3-Day India Visit
US Defence Secratary Lloyd Austin, who is on three-day India visit, visited the National War Memorial in Delhi. Mr Austin met Prime Minister Modi yesterday, and both leaders stressed on India-U.S. strategic ties. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and US Defence Secreatry Lloyd Austin are set to issue a joint statement this afternoon after the first high level meetings between the two delegations in New Delhi since the new Joe Biden administration took over. His visit comes at a time when the Head of the US Senate Foreign Affairs Committee warned that India was treading away from democratic values by cracking down on farmers, intimidating journalists and government critics. It is unclear if this figured in talks between Secretary Austin and PM Modi last night shortly after his arrival.
