UPI Charges From October 15: What Changes For Consumers And Merchants?
From October 15, a 0.4% Merchant Discount Rate will apply to eligible UPI merchant payments above ₹2,000, capped at ₹300 per transaction. The charge is to be borne by merchants, while person-to-person transfers remain free. The government says consumers will not be charged directly, while Rahul Gandhi has called the move a "UPI tax" and demanded a rollback.
