In a major shake-up at the British Broadcasting Corporation, the BBC's director general and news chief announced their resignation, following a controversy over the editing of a speech by US President Donald Trump in a documentary. Director General Tim Davie and Head of News Deborah Turness have resigned. A leaked memo, published by The Telegraph, claimed the programme edited two parts of Trump’s speech together. Well, making it seem like he encouraged the Capitol Hill riots of 2021. In a statement, Davie said, 'mistakes were made' and that he takes ultimate responsibility. Turness echoed the sentiment, saying 'the buck stops with me,' She however denied claims of institutional bias. Meanwhile there's no word yet on who will lead the BBC next, as the corporation faces one of its most turbulent chapters in years.
