Thousands Rally In Iran As Pro-Government Supporters Mourn Khamenei, Chant ‘Death To America’

Thousands of Iranian government supporters gathered in the central city of Yazd to mourn Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following his death in joint U.S.–Israeli strikes. Shiite clerics led crowds in anti-American chants as mourners waved Iranian flags in scenes aired on state-linked media. Iranian state television confirmed the 86-year-old leader’s death, while officials warned of escalating retaliation across the region. An emergency session of the United Nations Security Council heard claims from Iran’s envoy that hundreds of civilians were killed or wounded in the attacks. The strikes came amid stalled nuclear talks between Washington and Tehran, raising fears of a broader regional war and global economic fallout. Iran has since formed a governing council until a new supreme leader is appointed.
